Maternal Mortality
Compare modelled maternal mortality ratios across countries.
Methodology
Values are World Bank World Development Indicators SH.STA.MMRT: maternal mortality ratio, modelled estimate, deaths per 100,000 live births. The figure is a modelled UN Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-agency Group (MMEIG: WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, World Bank Group, and UN Population Division) estimate for SDG 3.1.1. MMEIG uses the BMat Bayesian maternal mortality model. When country data are sparse, the model uses covariates including GDP per capita, general fertility rate, and skilled attendance at birth. It is not a count of registered maternal deaths, a survey point estimate, a neonatal or under-five mortality rate, a healthcare-quality score, or a composite health index. WDI republishes the MMEIG point estimate only; uncertainty intervals are not included. WDI currently returns country series through 2023 for this indicator; 2024 and later years are omitted. OurBlueDot does not interpolate, fill missing years, replace missing values with zero, or add projections. Country rows are joined by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3; regional and income aggregates are excluded. Map ranks are comparable-sample competition ranks among currently loaded countries (rank 1 is the highest ratio). Lower values are more favorable. Missing countries remain without a value.
